With only five smoke-free rooms, hanare is a boutique guesthouse situated in the Taito district in Tokyo, close to the Tokyo National Museum, Ueno Park and the Tokyo National Science Museum. Sensoji Temple and Tokyo Dome are slightly further afield but easily walkable.
Amazingly for such a small guesthouse, there is a lovely little restaurant as well as a multilingual concierge service to help you with advice and directions. Complimentary full breakfast and Wi-Fi are a nice touch.
There are a growing number of unique accommodation options in Tokyo where you have more choice than a regular hotel or a private apartment. These new places, like hanare, offer a better connection to the surrounding neighbourhood and local experiences.
Hanare's slogan is "The whole town can be your hotel." You can rent a bicycle, stroll to the local onsen or take traditional Japanese bamboo flute lessons.
If you are looking for an intimate and authentic Tokyo experience with personal service and attention to detail, then hanare is a solid hotel choice.Review updated February 10, 2017
