Andon Ryokan claims to be Tokyo's first designer ryokan and was born out of a vision to introduce foreign visitors to Japan's lifestyle, culture and its special type of hospitality.
This little boutique ryoakn is located in a friendly traditional working-class neighborhood and is within a 5 minute walk from the Arakawa Line's Minowabashi Station and the Hibiya Line's Minowa Station. JR Minamisenju Station is a 15 minute walk and the Tokyo Skytree, which can be viewed from the open rooftop terrace, is 2.5km away.
The rooms are very small and basic but they are equipped with free wifi, fiber-optic cable, TV, DVD players and air conditioning.
You'll sleep on a futon unrolled on tatami mats and bathrooms are communal with a sink, shower and restroom on each floor. There is a free private jacuzzi with a pop art theme which guests can reserve upon check-in. Yukata and bath towels are available upon request.
Andon Ryokan is actually more like a high-end backpacker hostel, but don't let that put you off. There's complimentary coffee and tea and there's a homemade Western-style breakfast available in the communal kitchen. Andon also has a laundry room with two washers and a dryer; and bicycles are available to rent for either a half day or full day.Review updated January 25, 2017
