The new Bijuu in Kyoto is boutique hotel hideaway with only three luxury rooms and an on-site restaurant. It's the sort of place to stay at if you're looking for somewhere very special, very discreet and completely unique.
Located in the Shijo area in central Kyoto, the hotel is only a one-minute walk from Kawaramachi Station and the Kiyamachi area with its plentiful restaurants and bars. Yasaka Shrine and the Gion area are each a 10-minute walk while the Temples at Kiyomizu and Sanjusangendo can be reached in 20 minutes on foot.
The Deluxe rooms feature a kitchenette with refrigerator, stovetop & microwave, large closet, wooden furniture and bathroom with bath.
But Suite 501 at Bijuu is the star of the show. At a massive 114 sqm, it takes up the entire 5th floor of the building with views of the Higashiyama mountains and Kamo river.
The room is decorated with concrete and brick walls, stone flooring and selected art from around world. The centrepiece is a bathtub in the middle of the living room. A Japanese sauna with two stone beds adds to the ambience. Free WiFi and traditional Japanese or Western-style breakfast is included in the room rate.
There is a coffee shop on the ground floor of the building and a restaurant on the first floor. In addition, there is a basement, the Bijuu Gallery, which can be rented out for seminars, workshops, parties or exhibitions. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff are on hand to help enhance your visit to Kyoto.
OK, its expensive but Bijuu is unique, intimate and one of the best hotels in Kyoto.Review updated March 22, 2017
